This park is a gem. All the reviews are on track. This park is the farthest from the Interstate but only about a mile on and well worth it. The park does cater to adults, no playgrounds or play areas, but that was fine with us. We had a great lake site and everyone was very friendly. There were a lot of dogs at the campground but all were well behaved and on leashes. We only heard barking once. The only problem I saw was very early one morning I followed a man around on a walk who allowed his dog to pee on the electric hookups and on the flower pots. I was truly indignant for the owners since the care and time given to landscaping this campground are very evident. The owners live on site and have made this a wonderful escape for a stopover or a vacation, very relaxing.
Joe Wheeler was a beautiful park. We saw deer and turkey all through the park. The campsites are spacious and well separated. There are only a few (5 or 6) in camp loop C that have a view of the water. The weekend we were there it poured rain, and we still enjoyed it. The lodge restaurant was fair; the service was great. The people were very friendly. The bathhouses were the cleanest I have ever seen. Excellent park. Alabama does have a 11% tax on that $21 fee. Seniors get a discount.
This is one of the most beautiful campgrounds we have stayed in so far. There are a lot of sites here, but it was all still scenic. We had a lakeview site and it was level, roomy and clean. The sites off the lake were level and shady. There are lantern poles, a fire pit, and picnic table. This campground was maxxed out and we took a chance and went by on Labor Day weekend and as we pulled up someone else was leaving early. What luck! Even though it was full, it was quiet for a holiday weekend. We saw a sheriff's deputy car come through once. Everyone was super friendly! They are serious about the rules: pets included which we appreciated. Bath house was the cleanest we have ever seen: even on this holiday. We will definitely go back: but with reservations.
Nice campground - all sites had picnic table, fire ring, lantern hook, and grill. Restrooms could use upgrading. We saw people cleaning them - but there ain't a lot you can do with old! Water at these sites is on the opposite side of electric. You will probably need two water hoses. Sites are also not for rookies who are learning to level. The park was not crowded and we found a fairly level one - but the majority are slanted with the back lower than the front. Very much in the woods. Most sites were secluded by trees even tho they were fairly close together. Lake is about a five minute drive away with two public swimming beaches. Marina and boat rentals also available. Great golf course. Lots of night spots around with live music in the summer.
This is a friendly place, but a little overpriced in our opinion. We paid $27 a night, then had to pay $15 to fish (just my husband). They also charged him $4 for our four-year old, great niece to be able to cast out a line. (They did give her some worms) There is Wi-Fi but we didn't go find out how much more that cost. The sites are gravel: but it is big and small gravel with interspersed weeds. It was very uneven walking and there is nothing to do for children if you don't fish. The ponds are very scenic, but the reality is they are straight down a hillside and your chairs and the benches around the ponds are all tilted toward the pond. Also there is a very large gravel parking lot and a cafe between you and the ponds, so it is not a water-front view. Not great for old knees or small children. The cafe was good. We were there during Labor Day weekend and no extra entertainment was scheduled. We would stay here again if we were passing through and had to stop, but not as a destination. The sign now says Twin Lakes Catfish Farm and Pay Lake so like one of the other reviewers, I think the RV camp is just a sideline. There were no showers.
The grounds at this park were well kept. They are very neat and well mowed. It was our first camping trip in many years. There was shade for most sites although some sites did not have any. The bath house was pretty well kept - the showers were a pretty grungy, but not unbearable. (Reason for the 8) Some sites had an absolutely gorgeous lake view. There was a pier which we walked to each evening and a swim beach and pavilion within walking distance. The park was very kid friendly and had a lot of kids. There was a hayride both nights were were there. Dogs were on leashes. Mostly the park has trailer campers and fifth wheels. Sites were pretty level with a gravel base and picnic table, and lantern hook with grill and fire ring. The camp host was nice.
Cedars was a nice campground. There were a lot of kids and the park has an Olympic size pool and frisbee golf. Many bicycler's old and young were in evidence. There was a country and gospel singing on Saturday night in the campground. Activities were posted for children to participate in. The park was very busy with traffic. We camped in campground 1. The sites were very close together. The fire pit for the campsite beside us lacked inches being under our slide out. Luckily no one was there. The sites were paved and had picnic tables, grills, lamp posts and the fire pit. They were just close and each site had anywhere from 3-6 cedar trees on it so there was lots of shade. Campground 2 is where we would stay next time. Our fifth wheel is 27 feet and we could fit over there and the sites were turned to be a little more private -- they did have gravel pads --and in a more wooded and isolated area. The staff and the camp host were very nice. There is a great outlet mall within about 7 miles and the city of Lebanon has many things to do. You are about 30 miles out of Nashville. There was no Wi-Fi here. Cell phones frequently lost their signal at the camper. We did get the 5 major stations out of Nashville on our digital TV. Bath house was old and the one shower came complete with spiders. There were speed bumps - 4 or 5 in all- on the turn off road to the campground. The play area for children and all the picnic pavilions were on this road as well as the campgrounds. We enjoyed it.
